Beirut pop up shop opening in Doha

September 28, 2012

The opening of the Beirut pop up shop in Doha took place on the 26th of September at the Katara Art center in Qatar. Mayssa contacted me and asked me if I would be interested in having my products sold there. I agreed on the spot: it was a great opportunity!

You can read more info about the Katara art center on their facebook here. The Beirut pop store is the first of a series, and the aim is to have twice per year each focusing on designers from one city from the gulf or the middle east.

The idea is great and the space is just fantastic. If you are in Doha by any chance, make sure to pass by and check my work and other lebanese designers’ work too: Sarah’s bag, Rana Salam, Margherita and many others! : )

They turned one part of the Beirut Souks into a photo studio for 10 days, (from the 15th till the 25th). Everyday there’s a different photographer, and you can reserve your slot! Also you get the chance to choose a designer’s piece to wear for your picture. My scarves are there! : ) The space is really nice,  and the people are super friendly. I loved the idea! So hurry up! Saloua Raouda Choucair exhibition

October 12, 2011

The Beirut exhibition center in Beirut is showcasing the work of Lebanse artist Salwa Raouda Choucair’s in an exhibition entitled “Retrospective” (September 27th till November 13, 2011). If you are in Beirut you might like to visit, it’s great!

The artist was born in Ain el Mereisse (Beirut), in 1916. Her work is versatil, from sculpture, paintings, typography, textil design and jewellry. A lot her work is made of pieces that perfectly fit into each other (see first image), which is, according to the artist, due to the fact that they were done during the war, a time where humans were so far from each other. She wanted to bring them closer.

My favorite piece is the bench, which was executed in downtown Beirut in 1969. I absolutely love it. I imagine moving each piece and then putting them back together. It’s just a small fantasy of mine : ). I also love her calligraphy. Check out the photos, and you can also read more about the exhibition in the link below.

Yayoi Kusama at Reina Sofía Museum

August 9, 2011

I have to share with you the pictures of this wonderful exhibition of japanese artist Yayoi Kusama. The exhibition is at the Reina Sofia Museum in madrid, in collaboration with the Tate Modern. The artist has an obsession with  repetition, pattern, and accumulation. She did a special installation for the exhibition in Madrid (see the pictures with the lights: 3rd, 4th and 5th pic). I also love the living room with the glow in the dark circles. Check the pictures, and if you are in Madrid, go see the exhibition, it’s really worth it. To read more about the exhibition and see more pictures, you can go to the following link:

Exhibition at Caixa Forum Madrid

August 3, 2011

If it happens you are in Madrid, some interesting exhibitions are taking place at the Caixa Forum  from July 27th till November 13th.

The first one, called: “Teotihuacan. Ciudad de los Dioses”, with amazing small statues from the city of Teotihuacan. I love this piece. It’s my favorite.

The other one, “Haíti, 34 segundos después” is a photography one. It’s a compilation of photos after the earthquake that hit Haíti on the 12th of January of 2010. There’s also a room next to the photography space, where the visitor can enter and  watch testimonies of native people while standing on a moving platform that simulates the earthquake that shoke this country. Very nice pictures make sure to check it out. Photographs taken by Emilio Morenatti and Marta Ramoneda.
