I feel a bit nervous: I can’t find anything I want since all my things are inside boxes at the moment. I am moving tomorrow from Madrid.

It made think of this pattern of statues I did, I wish all my stuff were organized as these statues in my boxes.

Printing with linoleum

November 22, 2010

I was excited about printing using linoleum. It has always been on mind but I’ve never done it before. I bought the material last week. You can find it in any professional stationary store. I drew my design on a piece of paper, then I carved it using the cutter. You should keep in mind that it works exactly like the stamp: everything that is left uncarved will absorb the ink, everything that is carved, will not receive ink, meaning it will not print. PS: Be very careful, I cut my fingers 3 times! : ) Once your design is carved, you apply a layer of ink using a rolller, I applied mine using a brush, because I didn’t have roller, plus, the brush allows you the use different colors of ink, whereas the roller applies on color on the whole surface. Once you have the ink applied, you get your paper and you print it.

You need:

  1. a soft linolium surface (I bought mine in A4 format)
  2. a linolium cutter comes with different blades (red tool in the picture below)
  3. paint ( I bought 3 colors: red, blue and yellow. You can mix colors together to get another one)
  4. a roller to spread the ink

Mix and match

November 16, 2010

Few days ago, I was wearing my PJs (the fushia+orange fabric in the picture below) with my light blue Havaianas. When I was taking my pants off, I thought: Oh! what a beautiful color combination they make! The next day, I took a picture of them that I am posting below. Aren’t the colors so nice together?

Beautiful color combinations could be found in the most trivial things around us. One only has to look close carefully. Wherether it’s a monument, a fabric, or a picture… it could be anything. In my previous post, I talked about picking the right color scheme to your design. I will try to use this color scheme in one of my next post.

Red and blueberries…

I present to you my latest pattern. One the followers of my blog asked me to show and explain the process of doing a pattern. Below, you can see the initial drawings. The first thing to do is to draw some elements (4-5). You draw them directly on the computer or by hand then you scan them in. The next step is coloring your items. Choosing a nice color scheme is very important. For me, it’s the part I like most. I love picking a color palette, it really affects the whole design. Choosing the right colors together makes your pattern much stronger and attractive. Once you are satisfied with your colors, you start doing a composition with your elements. I see this pattern on a cushion in a salon.  Enjoy!

Water lilies

November 10, 2010

I have this printed piece of cloth in my small collection of fabrics that I use whenever I feel like doing some embroidery. I am trying to have a bigger collection, buying small pieces from here and there, you never know when they could be used.

The print on this piece of fabric made me think of lillies’s leaves floating on the water surface. First, I tried to do the flowers with threads only, but I realized I need more volume. I tried using “beads” and “sequins”, the result was much better.
